The Cross and the Bayonet
Racial outcasts from Louisiana battle against a Union commander waging his own sinister war.
Horus Cain, a freeman of color, has carved a successful life in northern Louisiana. Impartial to the brutal Civil War raging now for three years, his mind is drastically turned when a savage attack upon local homesteads by rogue Union General Ezra Sharpe’s forces ends in the unwarranted murder of many commoners, including Horus’ family.
Fearing further retribution from Sharpe’s private war of terror, townsfolk of various ethnic backgrounds form a special battalion and join the conflict to save their homes and wreak vengeance upon the immoral Union commander. Horus struggles not only against the blue coats, but battles to keep his son's heart from turning down a darker path. Will the hodge-podge mix of men stand together despite their differences for a common cause, or will war’s viciousness swallow their souls before any justice is served?
